Lubrication and maintenance of a worm gear

Gear units from the manufacturer Varvel are supplied filled with synthetic long-lived oil. They do not need service or replenishment within the average service life of 15,000 hours for use according to Service Factor (Sf) 1.0.

Service factor 1.0 means that the gear is designed to run eight hours a day with a steady load.
If the gearbox is taken out of service for an extended period of time in a humid environment, we advise that it is filled completely with oil. When the gearbox is to be put back into service, it is necessary that the oil level is restored.
